How to get rid of cigarette and pipe smoke smell out of room, linens and books.

A big area of concern in odor control is how to get rid of Pipe odor, cigar smell or cigarette smoke from a room, car or from fabric, linens, book, magazines or old newspapers.  Smoke can embed itself into the pores of the fabric or book or paper for years after the person has smoked amd the smoke smell still continues to linger and smell.

There are several ways to get the smell out of old books and magazines.  It is always a strange feeling to smell my uncles pipe in the old magazine stack.  The only issue is he passed in the 1960’s. I do not like to smell of cigarette smoke, which years later still smell like the person was still there smoking in the room.

The same it true for cars that smell like an ashtray. Think of how many times have you entered a car and it smells like an old ash tray? The same is true for a smelly hotel room.  When you enter a non smoking room and someone has smoked, you know it right away and the smoke smell does not go away.

There are a two ways, either to cover the odor or to remove the odor. The decision comes down to whether you want to use an air freshener to cover the odor with a less offensive smell.  Or remove the odor with an odor absorber for the room , car or item, so that the smoke smell is absorbed and then the is gone for good.

For me the decision was simple. Remove the odor!  If you can close off the area, use a naturally activated odor absorber like Fridge it,   www.fridgeit.com  that will take absorb the odor trapping it in the odor absorber.  The air will then smell fresh and odor free.  If the area of odor or smell is big and expansive,  then use an air freshener, spray or scented product, so cover the smell.  Since an odor absorber will take more time and will need a number to clear the air.

For old books or magazines with a trapped smoke odor, there is a way to pull the odors out of  the book.  Place the book in a resealable plastic baggie, leave some air in the plastic bag and then seal it with 3 Innofresh odor absorbers inside the sealed baggie, with the book or magazine sealed inside.  You can go to www.innofresh.com  to get the right odor absorbers, depending on your odor problem..  The smoke smell and odor in the book will be reduced if not gone altogether.  You can use this same techniques for linens, sweaters, and any materials that smoke odor has penetrated.

How many do I need to use?  For refrigerator odor I use 1 Fridge It Naturally activated carbon odor absorber,  www.fridgeit.com.  For small odors issues and you may need up to 3  absorbers to fully remove the odor, if the smells is really bad.  For regular sized rooms garages, basements or large closets,  it may take 3 or 4 Fridge It odor absorbers to clear the odor quickly.  Think of one absorber is able to clear a 6 x 6 ft area.  It for my fridge works great, unless I have some heavy smelling food and then I increase the numbers of odor absorbers.
